Front fence free food share

In 2017, two residents partnered with It Takes a Town to distribute 100 free fruit trees for planting on the verges of people’s properties. The idea was to create a trail of shared fruit trees throughout Murwillumbah. This idea grew in 2021, with two more residents growing the concept to include both free fruit trees and food boxes. This led to the launch of the Front Fence Free Food Share movement in the 2484 postcode area. There are now 212 shared fruit trees planted on verges and in parks, and 15 food boxes positioned outside homes in and around Murwillumbah. There is so much food being shared, not to mention a reduction in food waste… it’s a beautiful thing!!

a roadside stall with free fruit and herbs sits with doors wide open. White writing says free food share.
